2010 US Open: Day 6

"Do you think they were motivated by her inspirational speech, or the fact that she's a blonde 20-year-old who happens to be pretty attractive?" -Jim Courier, on the Yale football team and Caroline Wozniacki
Janko Tipsarevic did NOT do what Andy Roddick told him to do, which was to not waste this Grand Slam opportunity by losing in the next round--or, more accurately, "Don't f---ing lose [this] time." True, Gael Monfils is no slouch of a player, but Roddick is probably groaning somewhere on a couch right now.

Jelena Jankovic needs to find a way to start winning. She used to be someone who could beat both Williams sisters, but now she can't seem to get out of the early rounds of anything. There's no need to be so exasperated by the wind (which admittedly was out of control) when it's been blowing the whole match and affecting both players equally. Come on.

I don't even want to talk about Kei Nishikori.

Meanwhile, the bagels keep coming (it IS New York, says Jon Wertheim). Now it's time for some excitement: Caroline Wozniacki vs. Maria Sharapova, and Ana Ivanovic vs. Kim Clijsters! The Ivanovic resurgence needs to end in this round (at least for the tournament, she can resurge some more after the US Open). I used to be a fan, but right now her weird explanations for her losses as well as the incongruence between her level of play and her fist-pump-with-a-yell celebrations make me want to see her lose. Sorry, that's mean.
